Plasma-Powered Noise Control: Sonexos Plasmacoustic Makes the Cover of Voice Coil

Voice Coil's June 2026 issue spotlights the Sonexos Plasmacoustic technology, a breakthrough ultra-slim platform for low-frequency noise reduction.

Noise control has always been a game of tradeoffs — bulk versus performance, passive mass versus active complexity. But the June 2026 issue of *Voice Coil* introduces a technology that may upend those assumptions: the Sonexos Plasmacoustic platform, a patented approach to low-frequency and broadband noise reduction that is both ultra-thin and AI-enabled.

The centerpiece is the Plasmapanel, an active sound control solution built on what Sonexos calls a Plasmacoustic Metalayer. The science originates from the PhD work of Sonexos CTO Dr. Stanislav Sergeev at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where research into plasma-acoustic interactions yielded a new class of transducer. The result is a panel that generates counter-sound fields using plasma rather than traditional mechanical drivers — delivering broadband attenuation in a form factor far slimmer than conventional passive barriers. Real-time AI processing adapts the system continuously to shifting noise spectra, addressing a longstanding weakness of conventional active noise cancellation: latency in the face of unpredictable, low-frequency sound events.

Sonexos has also developed the Plasmapanel AirFlow Platform, which targets ventilation, HVAC, and appliance noise — environments where traditional duct silencers are physically awkward and acoustically limited. For the commercial construction and facilities markets, where mechanical noise is an ongoing design challenge, this is a development worth watching.

Beyond the Sonexos feature, the June issue covers Vance Dickason’s characterization of the FaitalPRO 21XL3000, a high-power subwoofer from the XL Line, alongside Dayton Audio’s E150MR-4 carbon-fiber midrange from the Epique line and a compact cloth-dome tweeter from Scan-Speak’s OEM range. Mike Klasco also contributes a Focus article on speaker testing, quality control, and automation, including a spotlight on Four Audio’s automated turntable system — technology developed out of the Institute of Technical Acoustics at RWTH Aachen University.

For professionals working in noise mitigation, architectural acoustics, or advanced sound system design, the Plasmacoustic story is the headline: a credible, peer-grounded platform that trades the bulk of passive treatment for the precision of plasma-generated counter-fields. Watch for commercial integrations in HVAC-heavy commercial environments and high-specification residential builds.
