Kamloops Gets Its First Indoor Pickleball Venue: Pickleplex Plans 10 Courts

Kamloops, BC is set to welcome its first indoor pickleball facility after Pickleplex announced plans to take over a former furniture retail space on Trans-Canada Highway in Valleyview and convert it into a 10-court indoor pickleball venue.

The Pickleplex model — converting underutilized commercial real estate into purpose-built indoor pickleball courts — has gained significant traction across Canada and the United States as the sport continues its rapid expansion. In Kamloops, where cold winters and a growing base of pickleball players have created clear demand for year-round indoor court access, the timing is well-suited.

Ten indoor courts is a meaningful number for a city the size of Kamloops. It's enough to support simultaneous recreational play, structured leagues, and competitive tournaments — a full ecosystem for the local pickleball community rather than a stopgap solution. The Valleyview location on Trans-Canada Highway also benefits from visibility and accessibility for players coming from across the Thompson and North Okanagan regions.

The repurposing of a former furniture store is worth noting as a model for indoor pickleball development more broadly. Retail vacancies have created opportunity for sport operators: the spaces are large, the rents are often negotiable, and conversion costs are manageable compared to ground-up construction.
